Kimberley Leggett Begins Reign in Style Following Historic Win

MISS UNIVERSE MALAYSIA 2012, KIMBERLEY LEGGETT, BEGINS REIGN IN STYLE FOLLOWING HISTORIC WIN VIA REALITY TELEVISION AND LIVE BROADCAST OF GALA EVENT

On the evening of 10 November 2011, during one of Malaysia’s most exciting live telecast events, a panel of specialist judges chose Kimberley Estrop-Leggett, from Penang, as MISS UNIVERSE MALAYSIA 2012. Broadcast live from Sunway Resort and Hotels Convention Centre in Selangor, this was the first time in history that Malaysian’s of all walks of life not only watched – but helped DECIDE who would win the coveted title.

The first such win following the revamp of the Miss Universe Malaysia title here saw 18-year old Leggett – a Penangite of mixed heritage who was also the youngest finalist this year – beating over 1,000 candidates from around the country.

To serve her country through representing us at Miss Universe next year, she is also deferring her departure to the University of California (UCLA) where she had planned to enroll later this year.

“Kimberley is everything we could have hoped for from this year’s efforts. She is articulate, intelligent, accomplished, beautiful and most importantly – the people’s choice! This is the beginning of a multi year program that we hope will result in Malaysian’s of all walks of life coming together to support our girls as they take the country’s name, heritage and pride to the global event every year,” said Andrea Fonseka, National Director, Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation.

The selection process began early this year and is part of the pageant’s ambitious long-term revamp. This will see Malaysian representatives being appointed almost a year in advance of the global pageant to help Malaysians engage and better know their representative even as the organization trains her for greater competitive presence at the global event.

Leggett’s reign – which will last until the end of 2012 – is beginning in style. Having made several public appearances at some of the more exclusive events in town over the last week; Leggett will now be involved in the Malaysian International Fashion Week, organized by the Malaysia International Fashion Alliance (MIFA) from the 21st-27th of November in Kuala Lumpur.

Leggett was part of BeautyCamp: The Search for Miss Universe Malaysia 2012. This was a 6-part reality television show that allowed Malaysian’s to vote on which candidate they thought would best represent the country. It was broadcast on ASTRO’s HITZ.TV (Channel 705) with rave reviews and a second season is already being considered.

Amongst the many prizes Kimberley took home was a tiara by Suhara Jewel Art, a one-year endorsement with Nestle Fitnesse Cereal, a year of hair services and skincare treatments from A Cut Above and IPL Skincare Clinic respectively, clothing from Bimba & Lola, and bikinis from bikini sponsor Kyla Ruiz. She will also be receiving a one-year allowance from the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation.

Kimberley Leggett, Miss Universe Malaysia 2012, is now on a media tour and is available for interviews and other opportunities with Malaysian and regional media.
